Leak Detection System Benefits

The DIWICON-L system is designed to detect and locate losses from liquid transport pipelines. The DIWICON-L system is an indispensable accessory for crude oil, petroleum product, and liquid gas pipelines. It gives the pipeline operator the possibility to quickly react to pipeline accidents.

The CASON DIWICON-L technology is based on the automatic monitoring and evaluation of pressure variations within the pipeline. Pressure waves are created when liquid escapes from a closed pipeline. The leak detection pressure transmitters detect these pressure waves at different times.

The velocity of the pressure wave through the entire pipeline is known based on previous hydraulic events. Knowing the velocity and the transmission speeds, the point of origin of the pressure wave can be calculated.

  • Site transmitters and detectors

The site transmitters measure pressure values on the technological pipeline. The fast reaction pressure gauge is capable of detecting very fast pressure changes in time that cannot be performed by big industrial manufacturers’ transmitters because of their high inertia.

The measured values are forwarded to the site leakage detecting controller unit.

  • Site leakage detecting controller devices

The site leakage detecting controller takes 5200 samples per input from the signal values forwarded by the leakage detecting transmitter and then it continuously analyses them by way of statistical analysis.

In the controller on the basis of the settings the local intelligence decides whether to forward the particular change to the central server or not.

The controller attaches a synchronized time stamp to the sent pressure value.

The device sends the actual pressure values to the centre in pre-defined intervals (e.g. 5 sec) but data transfer is continuous and immediate when detecting an event (change).

  • Central server

The data received from the site are stored in the central server. The server contains the software, receiving programmes and storing procedures that make the functional operation of the C-LEAK system possible.

  • C-LEAK software

The software is a server client application developed by narrow client technology.

The C-LEAK software manages the data received from all the measuring points of the pipeline comprehensively in their complexity. The data provide pressure values attached with time stamp, with which the pressure profile and pressure trend of the pipeline may be drawn.

With the auto adaptive technology the system distinguishes between leakages and hydraulic events (e.g. pump start).

The C-LEAK automatically manages the events, determines their extent and location. It helps the operator detect and evaluate the leakage event.

The C-LEAK can forward data and alarms to any SCADA application via standard interfaces (XML, OLEDB).

  • Supplementary communication modules

The leakage detecting system operates reliably by the complex evaluation of the measured pressure values and that is why it is necessary to synchronize the time stamps attached to the measured values at all the measuring points.

The time server units of the DIWICON-C group support the operation of the leakage detecting application.

In case we are speaking about constructing a new system, with the industrial GPRS modules of the DIWICON-C we can create individual measuring spots.
