CASON Gets Electrical with MEE

Hungary’s electrical energy sector held its 55th annual “MEE Vándorgyűlés” professional meeting and conference from the 10th to the 12th of September in the northern Hungarian wine country capital of Eger, which CASON was again proud to attend this year for the third time.

The central topic of the conference was “What May Electrical Energy Providers Do in a Liberalized Market?” Though a common topic today world-wide, it is the first time the issues of Smart Metering and the Smart Grid have received such prominent attention from the industry in Hungary. It is thus no coincidence that CASON was also present to publicize the company’s ZigBee based smart solutions which also incorporate the, now well known, DIWICON technology for wide geographic area networking.

CASON’s Product Manager for utility solutions, Attila Sándor, presented a talk titled “The Application of ZigBee Technology in the Energy Industry.” “We believe that the best solution is to manage the utilities (electricity, gas, and water) together and with the same technology,” said Mr. Sándor. “This way, the consumer doesn’t have to finance 3 different systems with three different technologies. Consumers like simplicity…so do we.”

CASON’s goal, however, is not impose the solution from above. “We think that it is in the consumer’s best interest to participate in the liberalized market. However, because of the nature of these markets, the only chance for the individual consumers is to form groups or mobilize local governments and behave as large consumers on the liberalized market,” said Mr. Sándor in reference to the nature of Hungary’s market liberalization laws and the company’s strategy.
